Rip DVD to .mp4, play on iPod, iPhone, PSP, Apple TV on Mac
Look for something more than Apple's currently scant content (video) offerings to load onto your iPod? Seems that we have always been looking for something new to enjoy, and most importantly, show off. So where can one get content other than the limited and pricey selection of iTunes? DVDs could be a great source.
What I wanted to share is how to rip DVDs to a format that's playable on the iPod. That's what this article is about. I would like to start with the iPod’s tech spec that gives you an idea of what resolution and bit rate of the video files iPod will import.

The biggest challenge here is that most of movies on DVDs are encrypted and DRM protected. To rip DVD in some places is legal, while some not, bottom line is that you don’t use the ripped movie for commercial purpose, but for personal entertainment.
There are bunch of programs out there on the net that can decrypt DVD and remove limitation on DVDs, some can also rip DVD to iPod formats. Personally, I prefer to DVD to iPod converter for Mac (shareware) to rip DVD, I just find it is suitable in my case, so I will use it in this guide as an example.

Import DVD video to iPod

Step 1. please download a iTunes at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ it is totally free.
Step 2. Plug your iPod to your computer. This will launch iTune. If not, start iTune manualy.
Step 3. In iTune, go to the 'File' menu and click 'Add File to Library...'. This will open a file box in which you need to select the video you have just converted.
Still remember where the converted DVD video is using the DVD to iPod Conevrter? great , select it , Once you have selected the file, click 'Open' and wait for iTune to add the file to its Library.
Step 4. The video is now added to your iTune Library, but you want it to be copied to your iPod. Here is how:
a. Go to Library in the Itunes left menu, then click Movie...the converted video is surely there
b. now drag the converted video directly to your iPod in the iTunes left menu( once you plug your ipod, there is an iphone icon appears in the iTunes left menus--Devices)
Ok, you are set now. Wait for the video transferring is done. Then plug off your ipod, your video will be there
